Boko Haram allegedly attacks Borno State Governor’s convoy again

Boko Haram allegedly attacks Borno State Governor’s convoy again.

Just 48 hours after some members of the notorious Boko Haram ambushed Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s convoy along the Cross Kauwa-Baga road in the state of Borno, leaving more than 30 people dead, including 10 policemen and 4 soldiers, another group of insurgents ambushed the Monguno-Maiduguri axis and on Sunday night attacked the returning convoy.

Monguno is north and Maiduguri, home to thousands of Internally Displaced Persons ( IDPs), mainly from Marte, Baga, Kukawa, Dikwa and other nearby local government areas, is about 80 km drive to Maiduguri.

Sources said the assault resulted in the shooting of a car / bus rear tyre conveying journalists attached to the governor, but the driver maneuvered and drove the car to escape the scene on the flat wheel.

Although details were sketchy at press time, our correspondent was reported by one of the occupants / journalist in the affected bus who did not want his name listed that the convoy ran into another Boko Haram ambush to Maiduguri about 50 km away.

Sadly, due to weak coverage, the journalist mobile phone lines went off, but findings show that no casualties were registered in the recent Sunday ambush.
