De Bruyne surpass Liverpool trio to Player of the Season award

Manchester City player Kevin De Bruyne was crowned the 2019-20 Season’s Premier League Star.

The Belgium International was won the prestigious award after fans, England’s top flight club captains and a panel of experts voted for it.

De Bruyne defeated three Liverpool players, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane, as well as Danny Ings, Nick Pope and Jamie Vardy, in the competition.

The 29-year-old was the standout player from Manchester City as they finished second in the title race to Liverpool, scoring 13 goals and recording 20 assists, which matched the record set by Thierry Henry in 2002-03 for a single season.

His triumph denies Liverpool a clean sweep of the top Premier League awards, with Alexander-Arnold winning the Season Award for Young Player and Jurgen Klopp being appointed Season Manager.

After ex team-mate Vincent Kompany in 2011-12 and ex-Chelsea star Eden Hazard in 2014-15, the midfielder is the third Belgian to hold the award.
