Explosion at NPDC’s OML 40 valve station – NNPC
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has confirmed an explosion at Gbetiokun, Oil Mining Lease (OML) 40, operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), on behalf of the NPDC/Elcrest Joint Venture.
In a release in Abuja, Group Director, NNPC Group Public Relations Unit, Dr. Kennie Obateru, confirmed that this incident which occurred on Tuesday during the establishment of a platform ladder (Benin River Valve Station) for access during the discharge of Gbetiokun output, led to seven deaths.
The bodies of the casualties were deposited in a morgue in Sapele, while the families of the workers involved are contacted by their employers: Weld Affairs and Flow Effects, who are NPDC consultants.
The release confirmed all workers on board the platform were completely accounted for.
In a statement commiserated with the families of the bereaved, NNPC Group Managing Director Mallam Mele Kyari prays that God grant them the strength to endure the irreparable loss of their loved ones.
