Nigerian rapper, Falz has replied to former Petroleum Minister Allison Diezani ‘s statement on how “Yahoo Yahoo” affects the country.
Diezani Alison-Madueke, who left for the UK from Nigeria as soon as Jonathan defeated Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 election.
The political figure has managed to evade arrest and prosecution for alleged corruption back home and several attempts by the EFCC to cause an extradition deal with the UK have proved abortive and make Diezani return home for a trial.
In a recent online gathering, Diezani gave a lecture on fatherhood and the role of Ijaw women in politics. While speaking, she lamented how in Nigeria Internet fraudsters or ‘Yahoo Yahoo boys’ are now promoting negative social attitudes and values.
In her words: “The ones that have swag, as my son would say, the Yahoo Yahoo boys; these, in short, are the role models that they look at. Such are the ones that perpetuate oppressive social expectations and beliefs, this for us is a travesty of a catastrophe unfolding. Why have I been thinking about fatherless homes and the effect that they have on our kids?
The truth of the matter is that an irresponsible boy tends to become an irresponsible man and it’s a vicious cycle, therefore. You can’t harvest plantain if you plant yam,’ she lectured.
“There are no shortcuts for you to work your way up the life ladder. Development in life, job and relationships, whether marital or otherwise, often depends on continuous commitment and hard work.
Through producing more responsible young men and women, we will create more responsible fathers, which in turn will bring about a more prosperous community and build a greater nation of productive Ijaw men and women. And to do that, we need to go back to the basics,’
Falz reacted to her speech by calling her out for being on the run and still opening her mouth to talk about issues like this. He wrote: “You are running but your mouth is still running dey. Who are the girls of Yahoo Yahoo if not you?
