Makinde orders reopening of public and private schools in Oyo

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved resumption dates for major, secondary , and tertiary public and private institutions in the state.

Education Commissioner Barrister Olasukanmi Olaleye made the announcement on Tuesday, in a tweet.

In the address, Olaleye said schools will now run morning and afternoon shifts for elementary and secondary school pupils and teachers.

He noted that it is compulsory for all schools, both public and private, to form COVID-19-19 Task Force to be led by Heads of Schools with two staff members.

He stated that reopening of state-owned tertiary institutions and private institutions has also been approved by the governor.

Olaleye added that normal school activities of tertiary institutions should start on Monday, September 28, 2020

“The 2020/2021 academic resumption date for the Public / Private Primary and Secondary Schools Session as declared by the State Ministry of Education , Science and Technology will begin on Monday, 21 September 2020.

“The revised Primary and Secondary School Standards currently include the following:

Schools will now run morning and afternoon shifts for primary and secondary school pupils and students as set out below:

“Primary from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.-11 a.m. Primary 4 – 6 12 midday – 3 pm. JSSS 1 -3 8 a.m.-11 a.m. SSS 1- 3 12 noon-3 o’clock

“It becomes compulsory for all schools , public and private, to join Covid-19 Task Force to be led by Heads of Schools with Two Staff members.

“School Heads are encouraged to use spaces such as labs, libraries and examination halls temporarily as classrooms where it is appropriate to maintain social distance.

“The chairs and tables should be connected to pupils / students as well as preventing item sharing.

“The Governor also authorized the reopening of State-owned Tertiary Institutions and Private Institutions for routine academic activities starting on Monday, September 28, 2020.

It is anticipated that academic boards and senates of institutions will set their date and duely adhere with COVID-19 directives for school reopenings.
