Man United may replace David de Gea with Schmeichel

Manchester United will attempt to sign goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel from Leicester City during the Transfer window this summer.

David de Gea remains number one stopper for the club, but Spain International has seen his form slip over the past 12 months, making some high profile errors over the past couple of weeks.

Dean Henderson is set to return to Old Trafford this summer after a loan spell at Sheffield United but a bid for Schmeichel is being weighed up by the Red Devils.

The 33-year-old, who has a deal until June 2023 at the King Power Stadium, has kept 14 clean sheets for the Foxes in 44 appearances during the 2019-20 campaign.

The Denmark international, who is the son of legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel from the club, came to Manchester City through the youth system but only made 10 first-team appearances for the people before moving on.

Schmeichel will provide a cheaper option to Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid, who reportedly won’t be able to leave the Wanda Metropolitano for less than his £109 m release clause this summer.
