Mr Eazi to raise and invest $20M support fund in Africa’s music

Nigerian singer and boss of Empawa, Mr Eazi is raising a $20 million support fund to invest in future stars of Africa.

The singer disclosed this in an interview with CNN, where he said he is partnering as a lead investor with 88 mph, a company providing capital to African businesses.

Mr Eazi confirmed that the Africa Music Fund (AMF), will allow him to establish a better funding model for the continent’s music business.

Mr. Eazi’s key reason for music funding is to offer financial resources to artists to develop their repertoire. “Most promoters and financial institutions do not understand the music industry, and are thus unable to finance musicians properly,” he says.

Artists are unable to go to banks to get money for their music because financial institutions do not understand how intellectual property is secured. They ‘re getting it for their physical properties but not for music. So, because not many people understand the music business, musicians don’t have a finance product.

Depending on their revenue and projected income, selected artists will receive funding using metrics such as streaming revenue, Mr. Eazi noted.

“We’ll just be doing our research for artists who already have footprints in the industry. For example, we can check how much they earn, or are likely to earn from their streaming income.
