Oyo State is ready to conduct WAEC, other exams says SUBEB Chairman

THE Oyo State Government has revealed its readiness for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to present students in the state as well as other external examinations as the world prepared for post-COVID-19 realities.

The Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Nureni Adeniran said this in Ibadan on Monday, while leading SUBEB board members and management to Islamic Mission Schools 1 and II, Bode and UMC Demonstration Basic Schools I, II and III, Molete, Ibadan to alert shanties owners and illegal structures around the school area.

He said students will now face every external test, like WAEC and the Joint Admission Matriculation Examination (JAMB), judging from the state’s readiness through the training of students in all terminal classes.

“The Federal Government said earlier that they have cancelled WAEC but we thank God that they have reversed it, WAEC is run by a national body comprising several countries, Nigeria inclusive and the COVID-19 pandemic is global, so whatever the body says should be the final, not what Nigeria thinks will happen.”

“However, Oyo State is on top of the situation, we are preparing our students and pupils for all exams, particularly in terminal classes, you also know that SUBEB has been televising classes for all categories of pupils and students since the outbreak of the pandemic, it shows our readiness.”

Dr. Adeniran said during the monitoring exercise that the state government would not tolerate any sort of illegality in the education sector , particularly in the state-wide primary schools.

“We do not allow shanties, kiosks and illegal structures to be erected around our school grounds, we do not tolerate such illegality, allowing this would have negative impacts on the psyche and performance of our students.”

“We have come to warn them and unfailingly give them the ultimatum to evacuate their structures today, we will come back and demolish the structures if they refuse to withdraw them.”

The chairman stressed that the state government was not bringing health to the education sector and its administration in the state after the destruction of the people’s property and enterprises.

“We are not to bring health to the education sector after the destruction of the property and businesses of people , particularly at the level of primary schools,” he guaranteed.
