Real Madrid calls back Odegaard from Real Sociedad loan

Real Sociedad announced that midfielder Martin Odegaard was recalled ahead of the new LaLiga season by Real Madrid.

Last year, Odegaard joined Sociedad on an deal that lasted for two seasons while this year the second had to be ratified due to Spanish football regulations.

ESPN has announced that Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has agreed to have the player at his disposal for 2020-21 after their exit from Manchester City in the Champions League.

On Wednesday, Sociedad revealed that the Norway star is moving back to Santiago Bernabeu after a “unforgettable season” in the Basque country.

“His goals, football, character, effort and humility have ensured that all of the Real Family will remember Martin with immense affection,” the club said in a statement.

Odegaard said that during a highly motivating spell with the club, he had been “made to feel just like a youth team player.”

The 21-year-old was one of La Real’s standout performers during their Champions League campaign, although a poor results run after the resumed season in June saw them finish sixth in LaLiga.

Odegaard scored four goals in 2019-20 and assisted six more in 31 league appearances.

Zidane is assumed to be keen to strengthen his midfield options for the next term, but due to the financial effects of the coronavirus pandemic, Madrid is not prepared to make numerous sign deals in the off-season.
