Task force members in Ebonyi arrested for beating Keke rider

Two officials from the Ebonyi task force were reportedly arrested by the state police for allegedly violently attacking a tricycle operator identified as Mike Obasi.

Obasi, who was initially assaulted by one of the suspects known locally as 2Face at Margaret Umahi International Market for suspected wrong parking, allegedly offered N300 to the suspects who demanded N1000.

Nevertheless, after picking up another female passenger who was said to be going to a Motherless Babies’ Home, officials of the task force who accused him of parking falsely stopped him once again.

Recounting how three men alighting from the white Hummer bus beat him, Obasi, who is now urinating through a pipe following the attack, said;

“My name is Mike Obasi from the village of Ogboji in the Ebonyi State Ishielu LGA. I am a father of 5 girls.

“With my tricycle, I reached the international market to drop a passenger; unexpectedly, a white Hummer bus double-crossed me and three men jumped off the bus and asked me of N1,000 for parking wrongly.

They kicked me out of my Keke as I begged them with N300, and started beating me. I don’t know what they were hitting on my back and I dropped.

“Later, I saw myself with the same people in the hospital who were targeting me on the street, pretending to be the ones who saved me. One offered me N5,000 to leave the hospital, but I couldn’t move my body.

Spokesperson for Ebonyi State Police, DSP Loveth Odah has confirmed the arrest of two suspects related to the attack. They were charged for putting laws into their hands.
