Ter Stegen set to be out until November after knee surgery

The club reportedly announced that Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen will possibly be out until November after an operation on his knee.

On Tuesday, Germany international had successful surgery on his right patella tendon.

In a statement Barca stated that the operation was a positive and Ter Stegen is now facing a two-and-a-half-month recovery period.

In all 2019-20 competitions, Ter Stegen has played 46 times, holding 15 clean sheets.

Last year, Barca signed Brazilian keeper Neto as a back-up to Ter Stegen but the 31-year-old played for the Catalans only two matches in LaLiga.

The report is another setback for Barca, who are due to name Ronald Koeman as their next head coach at a tough time.

Koeman will replace Quique Setien who has been sacked in the wake of Bayern Munich ‘s humiliating quarter-final defeat of the 8-2 Champions League.

Following a season in which they struggled to win a trophy, Ter Stegen ‘s absence would further unsettle a squad still low on confidence, with captain Lionel Messi claiming to be considering his future and defender Gerard Pique asking for drastic changes at the club.
