TSU Grants Full Scholarship To Gianna, Daughter Of George Floyd

On the very day George Floyd, a native of Houston, was buried, Texas Southern University desired to honor its remembrance by awarding a full scholarship to his daughter, Gianna, to study at university.

“The executive committee (of Regents), in consonance with the TSU Foundation Board, has endorsed a fund to grant Floyd’s beloved daughter Gianna a full scholarship,” the university told the associated press. “The management and staff of TSU will make necessary preparations for Miss Floyd if she as well has interest to go to the University.”

Floyd, birthed in North Carolina, lived in the Third Ward in Houston and finished high school from Jack Yates in the early 1990s. The chairman of the TSU Board of Regents, Albert H. Myres, said Floyd’s reputation would be honoured by giving his daughter an educational support.

Gerald Smith, the TSU Foundation chairman said the scholarship would be funded privately.

“We understand the importance of an education in finding solutions and advancing generations,” Smith said in the report. “We are looking forward to incorporating her into the TSU family.”
