UNILORIN student to sweep road & clear gutter for 3 months over fraud

Justice Sikiru Oyinloye of the Kwara State High Court, sitting in Ilorin, convicted the University of Ilorin’s 24-year-old undergraduate, Salau Olumide, portrayed above, to three months of sweeping roads and cleaning the gutters over internet fraud.

A report issued by the antigraft agency confirmed Olumide has been charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s Ilorin zonal office on one-count charges of intending to fraud via criminal impersonation.

The charge reads,

‘That, between November 2017 to August 2018 in Ilorin, Kwara State, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, you, Salau Olumide (a.k.a. Rick Freeman), attempted to cheat via personating to be one Rick Freeman, a white Caucasian with an email account; and thus committed an offense contrary to Sections 95 and 321 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 324 of the same Law”.

Olumide will sweeping Tanke Lane, starting from GTB junction to Abulennla Furniture, University Lane, Tanke, Ilorin, from 7 September to 7 December 2020 or pay N50,000 (Fifty Thousand Naira) fine choice.

Justice Oyinloye thus claimed that the prisoner was ordered to make himself available for profiling and recording to the non-custodial service unit of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Madala, Ilorin, who failed to procure six months’ imprisonment and to send notes to the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice, Kwara State, on or immediately after 7 December 2020.

Disturbances emerged for the prisoner after he was captured by EFCC agents for attempting to steal by impersonating Caucasian, Wealthy Freeman. When arraigned before the judge, he pleaded guilty to the requested allegation.
